Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She's also a seasoned public speaking. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos which include commentary on the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. But, she also explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet as well as other communities which have been left out. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism from a very early age. In 2009, when she was in university, she created her Feminist Frequency web site. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the representation of gender in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. Her determination was not slowed by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her desire to become an expert on media and feminism. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit focused on the portrayal of women in popular culture and the narratives that surround them.
